What we have to offer – county seat, courthouse, shops, grocery stores, drug stores, auto body shop, hardware, building supply, florists, insurance, banking, marinas, community hospital, wellness center – workout/indoor pool, beauty shops, schools, car dealership, antique stores, farm supply, feed & seed, accountants, computer store, boat dealers, attorney’s offices, museum, restaurants, real estate offices, Horseshoe Bend National Park, and more.

Did you ever wonder what it would be like to live in a small town – where you know the bank teller, the grocery store clerk, the mailman and the restaurant owner? If that’s what you’re looking for, Dadeville is the place! If you need the big city, we have a few major metro areas pretty close by: Montgomery – 60 miles, Birmingham – 85 miles, Atlanta -120 miles. And if you just need medium sized towns try Auburn & Opelika – just 30 miles away. Small town charm, historic square, slower pace, little or no traffic…who could ask for anything more?

Where is the Heart of Lake Martin? Dadeville! Many folks come to the lake for weekends all during the year. Lake Martin is a man-made lake with a hydro-electric dam completed in 1929 and operated by Alabama Power. The lake has over 40,000 acres of clear, deep, clean water and more than 700 miles of shoreline. Perhaps 35% of the shoreline has been developed – lots of wilderness with hills, rocks, trees, bald eagles, fox, coyote, deer, turkey, beaver, muskrats – wildlife; and all kinds of property to choose from – tiny old cabins, new mansions, and everything in between.

History of Tallapoosa County and Dadeville PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 28 February 2010 13:49

Tallapoosa county was created by the Alabama legislature on 1832 Dec. 18, from land ceded by the Creek Indians in the Treaty of Cusseta on March 24, 1832. The county derives its name from the Tallapoosa River. Tallapoosa is believed to mean "pulverized rock," in the Choctaw Indian language. Tallapoosa County is located in the east-central part of the state. The county lies almost entirely in the Piedmont plateau, immediately south of the Appalachian plateau province.  Since 1838, the county seat has been in Dadeville, which was named for Major Francis Langhorne Dade who died in the Seminole War in 1838.  The town was granted a charter in 1837 and was first incorporated in 1858, but lost its charter during the War Between the States.  Dadeville was incorporated a second time in 1878.
